VISITING
THE PALACE
The Fronteira Palace is one of the most beautiful Lisbon monuments from the 17th century. It is an old recreation farm that maintains a very close format to its original design. It holds the biggest in situ tile collection of that time period – tiles that were always kept in the same place they were designed for. Although it is a National Monument and functions as a museum, the Fronteira Palace is still inhabited by the descendants of Dom João Mascarenhas, the 1st Marquis of Fronteira, who ordered the construction of this house. This is one of the many charms of this place, that makes it alive and gives it such a special atmosphere.
